Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Ludhiana is one of the State Agricultural Universities in India. It was established in 1962 and has since acquired an international reputation for excellence in the field of agriculture. On trifurcation of Punjab in November 1966, Haryana Agricultural University was formed in February 1970 and the Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidalya later in 1970. In 2006 the College of Veterinary Science was upgraded to become Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Science University (GADVASU) at Ludhiana.
PAU happens to be one of the pioneers of the Green Revolution in India in the 1960s increasing food grain production in Punjab several times over. It develops and promotes appropriate technologies for supporting agro-based industries and generating self-employment opportunities for the youth.
The university facilities include laboratories, lecture rooms, instructional and research farms, modern instrument farm machinery, transport and library facilities.

PAU was declared the best state agricultural university in 1995 by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research.

The University has 866 faculty members and 3071 non-teaching staff. PAU was given special grant of Rs One Billion by the Centre in 2006-07 as an acknowledgement of its role in eliminating food shortages and alleviating hunger. Punjab Agricultural University Library was established in the year 1959 with 4 reading halls and a seating capacity of 760. PAU has video-conferencing facilities. The University has a Management Training Institute on its campus. The placement cell at Punjab Agricultural University is active with high placement records.
